What are liberals FOR?

Do liberals have any kind of vision of their own, or are they entirely negative? In Ireland, they're against the Catholic Church, against Irish culture and traditions, constantly trying to find the dark side of every former national hero and celebrated event. It's the same in England. Anti-monarchy, anti-public school, constantly attacking their own history and culture...conservatives (and even communists) have some specific social vision. What do liberals have, beside meaningless abstractions like freedom and non-discrimination and tolerance...good things in themselves, but not having any independent existence? How could a society built on liberals ideals have any distinctive shared values, any common dream? What do they stand FOR?
