How to crochet a third row?

I've done two rows and it's been a LONG time since I've started the second row. When I googled it everyone did this thing where they go through the first two loops (the next loop and the one "behind" it , not the next in line) I can ure you I did NOT do that when I started the second row. Shouldn't I be able to turn it around and just keep going? Why can't I do that?
