Creative project designs?

What are some creative project designs on the background of a big poster? My topic is Ellis Island/ Angel Island. (something about History) I need to make my background of my poster to have a history feeling to it and it has to cover the whole thing. My teacher has shown our cl some, and the one I liked was a Newspaper background. It's something like that! Thanks!! and I hope you guys will give me some great ideas.
